2014 Best Alternative Music Album prediction
The nominees are:
“The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You,” Neko Case
“Trouble Will Find Me,” The National
“Hesitation Marks," Nine Inch Nails
“Lonerism,” Tame Impala
“Modern Vampires of the City,” Vampire Weekend
WHO’S MISSING: “AM,” Arctic Monkeys.
THE PLAYERS: Alternative remains a vital category with both strong newcomers, such as Tame Impala and lively veterans, like Nine Inch Nails. (Oddly, the category name is a bit of a misnomer in that it’s not necessarily for acts that are played on the alternative radio format, but for albums that “exist out of the mainstream music consciousness,” according to the Grammy description.)
THE ODDS: Case made on of her finest albums, but the title alone is unwieldy enough to lose her votes. This is a race between Nine Inch Nails and Vampire Weekend.
THE WINNER: “Modern Vampires of the City,” Vampire Weekend
