"The Divergent Series"
Movies: "Divergent" (2014) and "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" (2015)
Upcoming movies: "The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part I" (2016) and "The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part I" (2017)
Why: It was always a mistake for Lionsgate to follow the prevailing trend and split the final book in Veronica Roth's trilogy into two movies. Just two-part conclusions worked for "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" and seems likely to work with "Hunger Games" doesn't mean it has to be done with everything. "Allegiant" was a horrible book and didn't have close to enough plot to justify being stretched to two movies. Of more relevance, though, 2015's "Insurgent" made less money than 2014's "Divergent" and got a 31% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes down from 40% for "Divergent." Worldwide box office also dipped for the second movie, which is really, really, really hard for an early installment of this sort of franchise. Put simply, this should have been a sign for Lionsgate: Do "Allegiant" as one movie and then set Shailene Woodley free. It was not.
