Why it's terrible: Let's start with a detail: no film that casts pretty Ben Barnes, perhaps among the most Anglo-Saxon-looking actors at work today, as a Colombian Catholic groom-to-be can reasonably be said to know what it's doing. And sure enough, so many other, larger errors in judgement have piled up by the end of this all-star, no-laugh atrocity that you may well find yourself willing to forgive Prince Caspian's casting -- at least he's agreeable, which can't be said for most of his co-stars' shrill mugging. It's a remake of a French farce, and it's easy to see how this would-be raunchy tale of divorced parents feigning married bliss for the sake of their son's wedding might have played out in a fast-and-loose Gallic context; director Justin Zackham's mistake is to try fusing oral-sex gags with wholewheat Nancy Meyers-style sentiment. (The man wrote "The Bucket List," so at least we were warned.) The overpopulated wed-com genre has hit a streak of diminishing returns lately; I'd say it can't get much worse than this, but that sounds dangerously like a challenge.
