10. "127 Hours" (2010)
Yeah, yeah: Boyle's jumped-up survival story -- the tale that launched a thousand terrible "rock and a hard place" puns -- got a Best Picture nomination. But so have any number of glib technical exercises, and "127 Hours" seems as vapid and over-egged to me now as it did over two years ago, when my vocal dislike of the film prompted a brief flame war with more enthused bloggers. Aron Ralston's story remains a stirring human-interest item, and it's brought to life by Boyle and actor James Franco with commitment and technical precision, but with no wider human context, it makes for a one-dimensional stunt of a film -- not enriched by a curious strain of we-are-the-world myth-making at its close. It's the one Boyle film I have no desire to revisit.
