10. "Kiki's Delivery Service" (1989, directed by Hayao Miyazaki)
Sweet but not saccharine, Miyazaki's gentle fable tracks the coming-of-age tribulations of a teenage witch several times removed from Sabrina. This was the first Studio Ghibli film to be released in the US through Disney, and it's easy to see why they thought this was a safe place to start: light on conflict and heavy on mature life lessons, it's a wise little film you imagine would charm just about anyone -- except, that is, for the Christian activist group Concern Women for America, who accused Miyazaki and Disney of promoting witchcraft. Can't please 'em all.
