Background: For years, the legal rights to Ridley Scott's seminal 1982 science-fiction classic "Blade Runner" have been a contentious muddled mess, and that same legal morass currently has the film out of circulation and unavailable for revival screenings since no one agrees who actually owns it.  Somehow, even with the first film still tied up in court, a deal was struck to sell off the rights to a follow-up, and Alcon Entertainment emerged victorious, determined to reunite Ridley Scott with what many consider his best movie.

Current Status: Did you see "Prometheus"? Warner and Alcon may have the legal right to make a sequel or prequel to the original film, but that doesn't mean they've got a great idea.  We're sure Ridley Scott can make an amazing looking follow up to his first film, and we won't lie... spending a few hours in 3D IMAX surrounded by the world of "Blade Runner" might be enough excuse for us to see the film.  But the first movie was such a perfect little gem of science-fiction dystopia that it seems dangerous to try to tack on some more narrative twists and turns.  There's no word on a date yet, but when "Prometheus" came together, it happened fast.  Right now, original screenwriter Hampton Fancher is hard at work on a treatment for the film under Scott's direct supervision.
