Campion may strike some as an implausibly artsy choice, but the Oscar-winning New Zealander has form in TV, both from her pre-“Piano” days and, most recently, in the slow-burning mystery of her atmospheric HBO miniseries “Top of the Lake.” As she demonstrated in “An Angel at My Table” and “Bright Star,” meanwhile, Campion has a knack for bringing intimate, idiosyncratic perspective to biographical material.
