Which Actors Have Won Three Oscars?
Could Daniel Day-Lewis, Denzel Washington, Sally Field or Robert De Niro join them?
Ingrid Bergman
Before Streep it was just Ingrid Bergman keeping Katharine Hepburn company with three wins. In fact, director Sidney Lumet had attempted to cast her in a meatier role in the film that brought her her third Oscar, attempting to pave the way for the honor. But she insisted on playing a smaller role and ended up with a trophy anyway. Nevertheless, Lumet had a hand in that: he filmed her big moment all in one take, allowing her to run a gamut of emotions without a cutaway. Bergman received seven nominations over the years, and no, one of them didn't come for "Casablanca."
