TV Shows on the Bubble 2013
From 'Community' to 'Happy Endings' to 'Hannibal' how are things looking?
BubbleWatch: ABC's 'Nashville'
SHOW: "Nashville" (ABC)
IN ITS FAVOR: Critics like it, or at least like talking about it. Golden Globes voters liked it. It generates a ton of iTunes attention, which represents a meaningful revenue stream for somebody. And it's a big player when you factor in DVR usage, as its 18-49 rating goes up to a strong 3.0 and it rises about 8.7 million viewers.
AGAINST IT: Despite being one of the most talked about shows of the fall, "Nashville" premiered soft and sunk a little and then never ticked up, creating the impression it was underperforming which, on some level, it probably is. "Nashville" regularly finishes third in its time period both overall and in the key demo and even if that's only in live viewing, it creates a perception.
OUR TOTALLY UNINFORMED GUESS: ABC wants "Nashville" to succeed and I think that the combination of DVR numbers and musical revenue potential, plus the possibility of a Connie Britton Emmy nod in the summer, should be enough to generate a second season.
FINAL VERDICT: Renewed!
