'Quantum Leap'

'Quantum Leap'

Premise: Future scientist Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) "leaps" from one life to another, where he has a limited amount of time to solve that person's personal problems before his next leap. His holographic pal Al (Dean Stockwell) provides tech support.

Original airdates: 1989 - 1993

Why a reboot: Oh boy. Fans of the original would likely scoff at an update, but the show has such a fun, flexible premise that it's not hard to imagine a new cast in new (but similar) adventures. The series' premise allowed the writers to toy with a new genre each week; any one episode could find Sam in a '60s domestic weepie, a '70s rock biography, an '80s gritty cop drama or a story about tolerance in the Civil Rights era. In an updated version, Sam's past would include the rise of the Internet, 9/11, two wars, Y2K, smart phones, and so much more. Could be interesting.
