'Gunsmoke'

'Gunsmoke'

Premise: Marshall Matt Dillon (James Arness in the original) attempts to keep the streets of Dodge City clean in the Old West.

Original airdates: 1955 - 1975

Why a reboot
: It's surprising that a remake hasn't happened yet. A popular radio show in the '50s, "Gunsmoke" was turned into the longest running live-action primetime series in history (now tied with "Law and Order"). It's well-known even to TV viewers who were too young to catch it the first time around, and it's been a long time since we've had a successful primetime western (even counting "Deadwood"). As usual, the question is, can westerns still capture audiences?
