'The X-Files'

Premise: Two FBI agents -- one a skeptic and one a believer -- explore paranormal crime cases.

Original airdates: 1993 - 2002

Why a reboot: This will likely be one of the most contentious suggestions on our list, due to the show's relatively recent existence and its continuing cult, but after the box office failure of the latest film version, it's not hard to imagine Fox considering a reboot of the entire franchise. After establishing unforgettable characters and an engrossing fictional universe, "The X-Files" frustrated some fans by being tentative about its own mythology, with stories playing to the complex mythology angle often taking a back seat to Monsters of the Week (many of which were awesome standalones). A reboot could simplify things by jettisoning the weekly mysteries in favor of a sprawling, ongoing storyline -- or vice versa.
