'Buck Rogers in the 25th Century'

Premise: Based on the character created by Philip Francis Nowlan in 1928, the 1979 TV series updated Buck's story to find our hero as a 1980's NASA space shuttle astronaut.  After a freak accident, he's frozen in hibernation for hundreds of years drifting in space. When his craft is discovered and he awakens, it's the 25th Century and the world has completely changed from what he remembers. Earth has now been rebuilt after a devastating nuclear war and is in contact with alien races from around the universe.

Original airdates:
1979-1981

Why a reboot: The fish out of water concept has been proven effective in many series and the "this is a vision of a possible future" aspect of the show could certainly play today. Given how strong genre TV has been recently and the advancement of CG effects (see the "Battlestar Galactica" reboot) Buck could be a lot more successful in the 21st Century than the 20th.
