Brian De Palma's film may be a wicked spin on both the Faust story and 'Phantom Of The Opera,' but it's also an incredibly canny look at the evolution of pop music from the '50s to the '70s and the way youth culture is packaged and marketed.  The songs by Paul Williams are outstanding, and Jessica Harper is awesome as the muse driving both Swan and the Phantom.  Even better, Gerritt Graham's 'Meat' has got to be the single best lampoon of glam rock ever done in any media.
