French director Francois Ozon ("Swimming Pool") crafted this glossy, colorful dark comedy-musical featuring a who's-who of Gallic leading ladies, including Isabelle Huppert, Catherine Deneuve, Ludivine Sagnier, Fanny Ardant and Emmanuelle Béart. It uses a zippy retro style referencing Hitchcock and Douglas Sirk, and buoyant tunes inspired more by pop music than Broadway, "8 Femmes" to lay out the campy murder mystery at its center.
