Certain segments announce their comic intent upon arrival. This fake commercial, however, insidiously deploys its central conceit as Bill Hader’s increasingly concerned father wonders what his wife (Kristin Wiig) has bought them for dinner. The commercial goes increasingly dark and weird as it progresses, but maintains an internal logic that never makes the proceedings feel as if they are being weird for weird sake. By the time the pizza achieves sentience and starts attacking the family, the audience is laughing too loud to hear the screams of terror coming from the kitchen.
