9. Lincoln (11/3/12)
Both a pitch-perfect parody of Louis C.K.’s FX half-hour show “Louie” and an insightful piece of historical analysis, “Lincoln” takes a little while to establish its premise. But once it does, it humanizes the country’s most famous president in unexpected ways while simultaneously producing gut-busting laughs along the way. In other words, it’s pure Louis C.K. Bonus points go to Aidy Bryan’s fearless performance as a literally “historically bad wife” and Kenan Thompson as a former slave none too happy about his current employment options.
