The greatest buddy comedies of all-time
Will 'The Heat's' Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy join the list?
24. 'Clerks' (1994)
Most of the movies on this list feature a pair of pals who develop their breezy friendship -- or triumph over their initial animosity -- during cross-country trips, car chases, elaborate cons, or other exciting situations. In Kevin Smith's B&W, no-budget debut, the carefree Randall (Jeff Anderson) and the high-strung Dante (Brian O'Halloran) mostly just sit around and talk about girls, sex, porn, "Jaws" and life in general while begrudgingly "helping" customers. They're lifelong buddies who grew up watching buddy movies together, and Smith endows their all-too-familiar daily routine with foul-mouthed, verbose dialogue that's informed by a number of older films on this list. Paring the formula down to its bare essentials makes it in many ways the ultimate buddy comedy.
