The 10 Greatest Super Bowl halftime shows of all time
Beyonce, Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, and more
6. Diana Ross, Super Bowl XXX (1996)
Sure, Miss Ross is hardly the first person you think of when you think Super Bowl, but as her 1983 Central Park Concert proved, the ultimate diva knows how to entertain a crowd. Backed by a phalanx of dancers, Ross somewhat hurriedly runs through a number of hits from her Motown/Supremes days, with no song getting more than 45-seconds or so of each tune. Ross then manages a costume change before launching into her solo era and she even has room for her version of “I Will Survive.” She goes through more outfits then seems possible in 12 minutes. It feels delightfully old school now and somewhat charming in its desire to please, especially as she has to fight a strong headwind that keeps blowing her hair into her mouth. But no travails stop her from making a big exit: she departs mid-field in a helicopter. That’s one way to beat the traffic.
