7. "Dr. Strangelove or: How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (Stanley Kubrick, 1964)

The comedy of Stanley Kubrick's take on Cold War paranoia was too much for the late-1963 climate in the wake of President Kennedy's assassination, so it was shuffled on into the beginning of 1964. Nevertheless, it gets at something real and disturbing, as all great comedy does.
