9. "2001: A Space Odyssey" (Stanley Kubrick, 1968)

Perhaps my favorite filmmaker for the breadth of themes he explored so absolutely in his time, Stanley Kubrick was on a whole other level with his spin on an idea from the mind of Arthur C. Clark. The film is unbridled essence, intoxicating.
