Even though “21” came out in February 2011, the album showed its enduring power throughout 2012. First, “21” swept the Grammys, earning Adele six statues. The album was then certified Diamond, for sales of more than 10 million copies in the U.S., making it, fittingly, only the 21st album to receive such a designation.  The album ended the year as the best-selling album of 2012, besting any new titles that came out during the calendar year. Billboard, appropriately, named her artist of the year in 2011 and 2012.
