Doctor: David Tennant
Companion: Donna Noble
Why we Love it: The most frightening part about "Midnight" is that the monster is human nature itself. The Doctor ends up alone on a bus ride from hell, traveling with a bunch of strangers to a diamond planet called "Midnight." When the shuttle suddenly stops, the Doctor immediately tries to fix the problem, assuring everyone that he's in charge and everything will be okay. Panic begins to set in as the passengers start to guess how much oxygen they have left. When something outside the shuttle knocks on the hull, the Doctor knocks back with his stethoscope, still searching for a logical explanation. But when whatever is outside silently and invisibly invades the ship, all hell breaks loose. The entity possesses the body and mind of the ship's weakest passenger and everyone except the Doctor is willing to throw her off the bus to save themselves. Then, writer Russell Davies turns every Doctor trope on its head. Suddenly, it's the Doctor who is possessed and the passengers decide he must die. Helpless and rejected, Tennant sweats and stammers his way through the second-half of this episode and it's a nail-biter until the end.
