Summer TV Winners and Losers
Winner: 'Broadchurch' (and BBC America)
BBC America is on a roll. "Copper" and "Ripper Street" earned OK reviews and were renewed. "Orphan Black" became a true word-of-mouth phenomenon and turned Tatiana Maslany into an Internet sensation overnight. And the "Doctor Who" announcement special was also a phenomenon and sparked much excitement for the new Doctor. But no BBC America offering has gotten anywhere near the critical raves that greeted the arrival of "Broadchurch" to these shores. Although "Broadchurch" hasn't been the sort of ratings sensation it was in the UK, the first episode drew over a million viewers in Live+7 and the reviews for the series and for stars David Tennant and Oliva Colman have been rapturous. Expect this favorite to pop up on a number of Top 10 lists at the end of the year.
