Summer Box Office Predictions 2013: 'Man of Steel,' 'Iron Man 3,' 'Despicable Me 2'
Who makes the top 10?
9. The Wolverine
Release date: July 26
Comparisons: "Batman Begins" ($205 million), "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" ($179.8 million), "X-Men: First Class" ($146 million)
Prediction: $180 million
Why: X-Men fans have been crying for years for a Wolverine movie that explores the dark side of arguably Marvel's most popular mutant. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" was not that, but still managed to gross almost $180 million (and don't forget that one got leaked online almost a month before opening). Moreover, the X-Men franchise is still going strong. Without a real star in the cast (at the time), "First Class" almost hit $150 million. Fox's marketing campaign is already light years ahead of "X-Men Origins" and buzz is the picture delivers. That's enough to at least equal "X-Men Origins'" gross even if it has the handicap of a second half of summer release date.
