Steven Spielberg's 25 greatest movies

21. 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park' (1997)
I think people have been overly kind to "Jurassic Park" over the years, and overly hard on "The Lost World." I wouldn't call either one of them particularly great, but they both contain set pieces that show off every single skill that Spielberg has as a visual storyteller. In this film, the highlight has got to be the trailers on the cliff sequence in which two angry T-rex parents show up looking for their injured baby. It's a riveting scene, and the "Hatari'-homaging round-up sequence also shows off some thrilling imagination. And while they don't quite nail the whole sequence, there is an undeniable kick to watching a T-rex rampage through glorious downtown Burbank. It helps that Jeff Goldblum returned, once again proving himself to be the human MVP of the franchise.
