Quick fixes for the fall's worst new TV Shows
Can 'Mom,' 'Dads,' and 'We Are Men' be saved?
"Super Fun Night" (ABC)
Biggest Flaw: Whatever's side-splitting and likable about Rebel Wilson both as a personality, but also in "Pitch Perfect" and "Bridesmaids," is missing. Entirely.
Our Helpful Solution: The "Make her Australian" ship has sailed. Many ships have sailed, since this was a CBS pilot and then an ABC pilot and then ABC did an episode they liked better that will air first, even if none of those episodes were really funny. I think it's possible/probably that Rebel Wilson may just need to be on cable. I don't know if she belongs somewhere like FX, where Jim Jefferies has remained pretty true to himself, or HBO, where Chris Lilley has had some success. I'm just saying that it's possible for an Australian comic with a very distinctive voice and style to be funny on American TV. And, sadly, "Super Fun Night" isn't that vehicle for Rebel Wilson. Or they could just add Heather Locklear as Rebel Wilson's sexy mom.
