"The Carrie Diaries" (The CW, January 14)

The last time viewers saw Carrie Bradshaw, she looked a lot like Sarah Jessica Parker and she was already a snarky, hyper-sexualized contemporary Manhattanite. When this Josh Schwartz-produced prequel picks up, though, it's the 1980s and Carrie is a surprisingly earnest and innocent high school student who looks a lot like AnnaSophia Robb. If you're expecting a "Sex and the City" level of raunchiness, you're clearly looking in the wrong place. "The Carrie Diaries" is CW to the core. Or, with its surprising John Hughes-style sweetness, it may even be WB to the core. There will still be plenty of fashion, romance, female bonding and a killer '80s soundtrack, so don't worry.
