As he continued to live out his Hollywood fantasies by jumping from genre to genre in his videos, MJ explored the world of gangsters in a way that's more "Guys and Dolls" than "Goodfellas" in this video. The plot is never very clear (even in the version seen in "Moonwalker"), but the dance moves, the dames, the casual murder and the famous "anti-gravity lean" make "Smooth Criminal" a visceral thrill. Director Colin Chilvers wisely keeps the camera still for the most part and favors long takes in order the best show off MJ and friends' stellar dance moves.
