Kristopher Tapley's Top 10 Films of 2012
From 'A(mour)' to 'Z(ero Dark Thirty)'
5. "Amour" (Michael Haneke)
All of my top five films are love stories of a fashion and director Michael Haneke's latest is titular in that regard. Its refinement and boiled-down honesty is staggering and the first time, for me, that he's created something that resonated in a deeper human way. Emmanuelle Riva is amazing, giving the year's best performance, and equally good, really, is Jean-Louis Trintignant. It's two-hander about love transcending the physical and enduring, and I think that's why it will possibly be the film for which Haneke is ultimately remembered.
