Kristopher Tapley's Top 10 Films of 2012
From 'A(mour)' to 'Z(ero Dark Thirty)'
9. "The Queen of Versailles" (Lauren Greenfield)
Documentaries have been as powerful as ever this year and it felt like the form deserved some representation. But that's not the only reason why I included Lauren Greenfield's Sundance sensation on my list. This is a movie about America, however lucky the filmmaker may have been to stumble onto it. There is a shot in the film of a boy spinning around on a merry-go-round and eventually, he falls flat on his face, and it so sums up the "keeping up with the Joneses" thematic, this shift in a nation's values that ought to be very much at the forefront of consideration.
