3. "Edward Scissorhands" (Production Designer: Bo Welch)
Welch was on board once again a couple years later for Burton's first truly personal film, "Edward Scissorhands." A minimalist town outwardly reflecting the inner worlds of its inhabitants (built on expressionism as much as the creepy manor at the end of the street), carefully sculpted shrubs scattered throughout, a sense of chaos dropped into order (and the irony that it's really vice versa) -- it's simply a film full of ideas in its design.
