6. "Dark Shadows" (Production Designer: Rick Heinrichs)

Burton's latest is full of trademark largesse, but it's also a bubbly blend of eras that production designer Rick Heinrichs (who came up through the Burton ranks, stretching back to short film work in the early 1980s) must have relished. A 1970s aesthetic tossed onto Gothic-accented 18th Century architecture like paint splattered from a bucket is fun and fascinating with something new around every corner. The film itself? Not so much.
