2012 Grammy nominations Surprises & Snubs: Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Bon Iver
What's up with the Skrillex nominations? How did Drake make the list?
SURPRISE: Bon Iver
Did you hear that thud? That the staff of record label Jagjaguwar collectively falling out of their chairs. Arcade Fire was the big indie breakthrough last year, and it's Justin Vernon's turn. The softie singer-songwriter gets the benefit of the Better Late Than Never syndrome: though the Academy failed to acknowledge his first album "For Emma, Forever Ago" and beloved track "Skinny Love," so they gave him Best New Artist based on this, his second self-title album, among three other major nominations. His appearance on Kanye West's Album of the Year non-nominee "Dark Twisted Fantasy" probably helped, too. -KH
