From Batman to X-Men: 10 Hollywood reboots that got it right
How will 'Man of Steel' measure up?
This Robert Rodriguez-produced reboot of the sci-fi horror series that began with 1987's iconic "Predator," hit a snag with 1990's critically-panned "Predator 2" and devolved into near-parody with the subsequent "AvP" films is considerably better than its lukewarm reputation suggests. While "Predators" doesn't do anything particularly new with the series, it nevertheless gives it a much-needed jolt of energy thanks to Nimrod Antal's lean, mean direction and impressive special effects that are, refreshingly, largely practical. While the film can rightly be considered a proper sequel to the Schwarzenegger original, the term "reboot" applies equally well given how it manages the neat trick of injecting life into a franchise that was long considered down for the count (if not creatively bankrupt). Given that, it's a shame no sequel has yet materialized.
