Why someone would want to remake it: Edgar Wright's film certainly sticks close to the text of Bryan Lee O'Malley's charming and eccentric comic series, and it is visually adventurous in the way it directly translates ideas from the comic page to the movie screen. Bold, stylish, exceptionally well-cast… and a box-office fizzle. These days, if something's based on a comic, even if the earlier version didn't make money, it's still considered a safe bet. In this case, some Universal executive may some day find himself sitting across from some momentarily white-hot Disney Channel kid looking to make his jump to movies who is going to mention how much he just loooooooooves the "Scott Pilgrim" comics and the coin's going to drop...

Why they shouldn't: ...and when that happens, that executive should resist with every fiber of his being. Wright's movie is one of those gorgeous Quixotic hiccups of temporary insanity where everyone involved tuned into the same distant frequency. There's really no way they could work any harder to translate the voice of the book into something that works as film, but that also folds in the same influences that informed the very language of the story.
