10 female characters Joss Whedon could add to 'The Avengers 2'
Which of these super ladies will could join Iron Man, Hulk and Cap in the sequel?
Real Name: Jessica Jones
First Appearance: Alias #1
Powers: Super strength, flight, resistance to injury
Avengers Member: Yes
Why: In her relatively brief time in the Marvel Universe (Alias was first published in 2001), Jessica has worn many hats, and had many superhero names (she's also gone by Knightress and Power Woman). Mostly, though, she's served as an observer of the superhero scene, whether as a private detective specializing in cases involving supers, a reporter for the Daily Bugle's magazine, a mentor to the Young Avengers or the wife of Luke Cage and mother of his baby. Joss Whedon could use her in any of a variety of roles, from young superheroine who ultimately decides she's not cut out for the game to the more cynical, wisecracking version she is so much of the time. Part of what made the first Avengers film so memorable was the way Whedon was able to apply his sense of humor to a superhero world without undermining the stakes or action; Jessica Jones, regardless of what name and role she's adopted at the moment, fits Whedon's voice very, very well.
