Best: Bob Newhart gets a standing ovation
More than a few people greeted the news of Bob Newhart's first Emmy win last weekend with utter incredulity. The guy is one of the legendary performers in TV history, but it took a "Big Bang Theory" guest appearance to get him an Emmy. Good on the TV Academy to make sure that Newhart had a role in the live primetime telecast. He got a big laugh by slipping into the line with the accountants and then, when he took the stage with Jim Parsons, he got a well-earned standing ovation. And then Newhart followed that ovation by landing several punchlines with Parsons, who justly praised him for his comic timing, which is as good as it gets. Stephen Colbert's joy at receiving an award from Newhart was unmistakable.
