Emmy Nomination Preview 2013 - Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy
Can Sofia Vergara or Betty White dethrone Julie Bowen?
Betty White of 'Hot in Cleveland'
Betty White, "Hot in Cleveland"
Nomination Status: There are maybe eight actresses pushing for the four nomination spots below the two "Modern Family" co-stars. When it doubt, Betty White is a default.
In Her Favor: Simply put, it's a surprise whenever Betty White is *not* nominated for awards. Even last year when she was surprisingly snubbed in this category, she picked up a hosting nomination for "Off Their Rockers," helping knock Jeff Probst out of the category. White was nominated for "Hot in Cleveland" in 2011 and she has picked up three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for the role, winning twice. I don't have a clue what she's been up to on "Hot in Cleveland" over the past year, but I'll bet it involves saying raunchy things that seem inappropriate coming from a woman in her 90s. Hilarious.
Working Against Her: White should be up again in the Reality Host category and Emmy voters may figure that as long as they've recognized her in some way, shape or form, they've done their due diligence. Perhaps last year was a sign of Emmy voters actually realizing what "Hot in Cleveland" was and deciding it's not the sort of thing they'd ever honor if Betty White weren't involved?
