Emmy Nomination Preview 2013 - Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy
It took seven nominees to fill this category last year
Edie Falco of 'Nurse Jackie'
Edie Falco, "Nurse Jackie"
Nomination Status: By predicting this former winner would drop out of the field last year, I'm pretty sure I counter-jinxed her into a nomination. Let's try that again.
In Her Favor: Falco is a four-time Emmy winner, including one win for "Nurse Jackie" and, thus far, whenever she's been eligible for an Emmy nomination, she has gotten it. Last year, I guess I underestimated the creative bump "Nurse Jackie" got in its fourth season and the show continued some of that momentum this year. There's really not much I can tell you about Edie Falco and her performance here that you don't know. If she gets yet another nomination, you'll hear no outrage from me.
Working Against Her: Last year there were seven nominees for six positions and when I went through the category, I thought there were nine actresses who were going to be battling for those places. This year is identical with only Laura Linney leaving the category for the more hospitable climes of the Movie/Miniseries category. Falco is the last of those eight actresses I'd expect to have in the hunt and a nomination for her wouldn't surprise me. A nomination for anybody else in this gallery really might surprise me.
