Emmy Nomination Preview 2013 - Outstanding Comedy Series
Can anything dethrone 'Modern Family'?
Nomination Status: Nominated last year, but I'm predicting it will drop out.
In Its Favor: "Veep" was one of the surprises of last year's Emmys field. It wasn't that the nomination didn't make sense. What didn't make sense was the nomination in such a relative vacuum. If, for example, Armando Iannucci had received a couple script or directing nods, which would have been well earned, it would have shown that Emmy voters loved all aspects of the show. Instead, all we know is that Emmy voters love Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the show itself.
Working Against It: That's just weak support. It doesn't mean that it won't happen again, but the shows that get nominated typically have five or more nominations. Something like "Girls" can be a logical exception, because If you nominate Lena Dunham four times, that pretty much covers it. I'm skeptical "Veep" can repeat, even if the show remains a foul-mouthed pleasure.
