Emmy Nomination Preview 2012 - Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama
With Margo Martindale gone, will this be Christina Hendricks' year?
Maggie Smith of 'Downton Abbey'
Maggie Smith, "Downton Abbey"
Nomination Status: Go ahead. Tell the Dowager Countess she's not getting an Emmy nomination. Try it. SHE WILL CUT YOU! Verbally.
In Her Favor: Smith was already an unstoppable awards force of nature last summer when "Downton Abbey" had a far lower pop culture profile. Now that it's gone from cult favorite to phenomenon, there's no reason to think Smith won't coast to a nomination, even in a far more competitive category. She's already a two-time Emmy winner and she can expect to be a strong candidate for a third after another season of impeccable withering glances and biting one-liners.
Working Against Her: Nothing worth mentioning, though she did lose in both of the individual categories she was nominated for at the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards.
