Emmy Nomination Preview 2012 - Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama
Peter Dinklage tries to defend Emmy's toughest category
Walton Goggins of 'Justified'
Walton Goggins, "Justified"
Nomination Status: Should be good enough to hold onto his nomination place.
In His Favor: After stupidly ignoring him for the last three or four seasons of "The Shield" and then stupidly ignoring him for the first season of "Justified," Emmy voters noticed Walton Goggins last season. And good for them! Boyd Crowder's murky, mercurial morality has made him a dream character for any actor and it's hard to imagine anybody inhabiting him more fully than Goggins does. While the third of "Justified" maybe wasn't as Emmy-friendly for Goggins as Season Two was, he had enough big moments to stand out.
Working Against Him: Like Giancarlo Esposito, Goggins could be weakened by a showier co-star -- Neal McDonough in this case -- stealing some of his thunder. I can very easily imagine a scenario in which McDonough swoops in and replaces Goggins in this field.
