Pro: If you're looking to class things up in the post-Lucas era, you can't make a much stronger statement to that effect than if you hire Christopher Nolan. After all, he's the guy who made Batman cool again after Joel Schumacher had his way with the franchise, and it would be interesting to see what sort of story Nolan could tell with a backdrop as big and fantastic as the "Star Wars" universe.
Con: One of the great strengths of the original films was the sense of humor that managed to keep things light without ever undermining the human drama. Nolan isn't a particularly funny filmmaker, and while he's obviously an enormously skilled filmmaker, there are particular things that define "Star Wars" that might not be in his filmmaking vocabulary. There's also the concern that someone with this strong a signature might not be willing to work in a world that's already been defined as fully as this one.
