Guillermo del Toro

Pro:  His entire career so far plays like one long cantina sequence.  No one loves monsters the way Guillermo loves monsters, and the "Star Wars" universe is positively brimming over with monsters.  He's obviously willing to play in a world he likes even if he didn't create it, as with the "Hellboy" films and his near-miss on "The Hobbit," and a great side effect of him doing a "Star Wars" movie (aside from the potential that he'd make an amazing movie) would be the near-guaranteed financial success, which could buy him room to make more personal projects.

Con:  Then again, after "Pacific Rim," maybe he doesn't need a "Star Wars" film.  It is a frustrating world for filmmakers with strong personal interests these days, and Guillermo finally seems to be shifting momentum in his direction.  By coincidence, I happened to be standing next to Guillermo when this news broke day, and while I think everyone in the room was excited by the news and surprised by it, the last impression I got was that Guillermo wanted to jump into "Star Wars".  He knows how horrible fandom can be, and I think he's very happy not subjecting himself to what would be a truly mind-boggling level of hyper-scrutiny.
