Directors and actors who need to work together again
We'd love to see these collaborations once more, please
Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck
Previous collaboration: “Gone Baby Gone” (2007)
Why Ben should: No disrespect to the Oscar-winning “Argo” director, who has a sure hand with actors, but he’s not his own best leading man. While perfectly fine as the stoic center around which more volatile characters revolve in “The Town” and “Argo,” if his next film is to feature a more complex protagonist, he’d do well to concentrate his efforts behind the camera – as he did in his first film, where his edgier little brother took center stage to strong effect.
Why Casey should: The younger Affleck isn’t the most prolific actor – we’ve seen him in just three films since his impressive 2007 breakthrough in “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” and “Gone Baby Gone.” He’s a risk-taker who rarely disappoints ("Out of the Furnace" will showcase his talents later this year), but it would be nice to see more of him. Fostering a regular partnership with his brother, who seems bound for a long career in smart, upscale mainstream entertainment, would be a nice counterpoint to his artier endeavors.
