Dear Hollywood: Don't remake these '90s classics
With remakes of 'Point Break' and 'The Crow' already in the works, we ask Tinseltown to lay off these '90s gems
Seeing as we put Amy Heckerling's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" on our '80s list, it seems only right to include "Clueless" - a film that stands as one of the definitive teen classics of the decade - on the countdown this time around. Truly, the bubbly film remains an enduring gem in a sub-genre that so often steps wrong, with writer/director Heckerling managing to somehow duplicate screenwriter Cameron Crowe's "Fast Times" feat of approximating what actual teenagers talk like (albeit in a world somewhat more heightened than that earlier film). The movie's enduring popularity of course makes it an easy title for Hollywood to exploit with a remake, and yet how could they possibly manage to match the lightning-in-a-bottle chemistry of original cast-mates Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy and Stacey Dash? Answer: they couldn't.
