'Edward Scissorhands' (1990)

I can see it now: Fox takes some up-and-coming young actor - Robert Pattinson, say - and develops a remake of this Tim Burton classic as a starring vehicle for him. The only problem? "Edward Scissorhands" should never be remade, ever, and certainly not by a director other than Tim Burton. That's because more than perhaps any of his other films, "Scissorhands" demonstrates Burton's gift for wedding eye-popping visuals to a genuinely affecting oddball character study. Indeed, it's the personal nature of the director's vision here - not to mention his clear creative synchronicity with star Johnny Depp - that should make it off-limits for a remake.
