'The Princess Bride' (1987)

Why it's so great: Rob Reiner's old-fashioned take on William Goldman's swashbuckling fantasy-romance novel is still laugh-out-loud funny and romantic to the max. Robin Wright and an impossibly handsome Cary Elwes lead a pitch-perfect cast that includes everyone from a pre-"OBEY" Andre the Giant to a pre-"Wonder Years" Fred Savage.

Remake-o-meter says: Goldman supposedly had a hard time allowing his novel to be adapted in the first place, so a remake seems unlikely...though they'll probably find a way. But please don't.
