Blockbuster Movie Showdown: Release Date Madness
Which studio will blink first?
'Ted 2' vs. 'Terminator: Genesis'
Release dates: June 26, 2015 and July 1, 2015
Longview Winner: "Ted 2"
Longview Loser: "Terminator"
Should either film move off the date: "Terminator," but it likely won't.
Lowdown: This is really a showdown for the July 4th holiday box office frame in 2015. But let's take a step down memory lane first. Do you remember the hype for "Terminator: Salvation"? The version that starred Sam Worthington and Christian Bale, fresh off "The Dark Knight"? Do you know how much that opened to? A shockingly low $42 million. Even the original "Ted" made more than that in its opening weekend and its fanbase has only grown thanks to DVD and continuing repeat airings on pay-TV. Seth MacFarlane's anticipated sequel has so much brand loyalty it could do "Hangover"-type money ($275 million plus). We're not convinced that yet another "Terminator" reboot or sequel can compete with the hype around the return of the talking teddy bear. Not unless James Cameron returns to direct (which isn't happening obviously).
